Red Valley hike (7 AM start, 4 hrs): the trail from Çavuşin village to the Kızılçukur viewpoint (8km, moderate, 150m elevation gain) runs through volcanic formations facing east — the morning light enters the valley from behind the hiker and illuminates the red-tinged tuff formations in the most saturated colour available. Ihlara Valley (14km, 6 hrs): the Melendiz River gorge is 80–120 metres deep with near-vertical basalt walls. The trail crosses the river 8 times via stepping-stone fords, passing 105 rock-cut Byzantine churches carved directly into the cliff face. Derinkuyu (constant 10–13°C underground temperature): the midday visit is both heritage experience and literal escape from the Cappadocia plateau heat.
