Gulmarg Powder Slopes in January and a Bukhari-Warmed Houseboat at NightA 6-Day Kashmir Winter Tour from the Snow Meadow to the Frozen Lake Edges

Kashmir winter tourism is Vikas Rana's personal speciality — visited personally in December 2017, 2019, and 2023. The winter circuit is extraordinary for three reasons: Gulmarg's January powder snow (the Gondola Phase 2 at three thousand nine hundred eighty metres accesses Apharwat's steep off-piste terrain, rated among Asia's best natural skiing); Dal Lake's December-January atmosphere (lake edges freeze, mist on the water every morning, houseboats lit warmly from inside, bukhari heater charcoal glow, Kahwa in brass cups); and Pahalgam in snow (Betaab Valley under one to three feet of snow, no tourists, silence, the Lidder River partially frozen with ice formations on rocks).

Prices are thirty to forty percent lower than summer. Crowds are minimal — Vikas counted fewer than twenty tourists in Pahalgam on his December 2023 visit. Note: Sonamarg road CLOSED December-April (Zoji La snowbound). This winter circuit uses Srinagar-Gulmarg-Pahalgam triangle experienced entirely differently under snow. December-February operates with winter-certified driver and snow chains for mountain road safety.
