Taking my 72-year-old mother along with our two school-age kids to Europe felt overwhelming initially, but the pacing of this trip was spot on. The massive 9-meter chocolate fountain at Lindt Home of Chocolate in Kilchberg had the kids ecstatic, while Gruyères Castle and the Maison Cailler tasting in Broc was an absolute hit with everyone. Staying close to central stations made morning boarding effortless for mother without long walks. The team on chat even messaged us lift-accessible entry points for the Swiss Museum of Transport in Lucerne. Very thoughtful and dependable coordination.

Tour Overview
An 8-day family Switzerland package from India built around cities, castles and museums rather than cable cars - two nights in Zurich, three in Bern and two in Lucerne, with a Swiss Travel Pass on which children under 16 travel free. Good in any month from April to October, and workable in winter too, because almost nothing on this route depends on a mountain being open.
Most Switzerland family itineraries are a chain of summit tickets, which is expensive and, for a child under about ten, largely the same view four times. This one goes the other way: the bear park in the middle of Bern, a medieval castle, a working cheese dairy and a chocolate factory in one day at Gruyeres, and Europe's largest transport museum in Lucerne with a planetarium inside it. Nothing here is more than ninety minutes by train from the last thing, and every day has something on it that a child would choose.
Key features of this package
Mid-range itinerary
Explore your journey day by day, with every stay, transfer and experience clearly planned.

Arrival: The station sits directly beneath Zurich Airport arrivals - escalator down and ten minutes to the city, which is as easy as an arrival gets with children and luggage.
Check-in: Two nights in a family room in central Zurich, walking distance from the station.
Evening: The lake promenade at Bürkliplatz. Swans, ducks and space to run after a long flight, which is usually what children need on day one.
Afternoon: The Niederdorf lanes and the Lindenhof terrace, which gives you the whole Old Town in one view and costs nothing.

Evening: Back along the lake into Zurich. In summer the light holds until nearly ten.
Morning: The Swiss National Museum, beside the station in a building that looks like a castle. Armour, coins, clocks and Swiss history from the start. Entry is covered by your pass.
Midday: Tram and a short train to Kilchberg on the lake shore, about twenty-five minutes.
Afternoon: Lindt Home of Chocolate - the nine-metre chocolate fountain in the atrium, the making-of exhibition, and a tasting area at the end that no child has ever walked past quickly. Entry included.

Morning: Direct train Zurich to Bern, about an hour, twice hourly. Your first of only two hotel changes.
Old Town: A UNESCO World Heritage site with six kilometres of covered arcades - which means shopping and walking in the rain without anyone getting wet.
Zytglogge: The medieval clock tower puts on a mechanical figure show four minutes before every hour. Free to watch from the street, and worth timing your walk around.
BearPark: Brown bears in a riverside enclosure below the old town - Bern's own symbol, free to visit, and usually the thing children talk about that evening.

Morning: Bern to Gruyeres, about ninety minutes with one change, through the Fribourg countryside.
Gruyeres Castle: Eight hundred years old, sitting above a walled village with no cars in it. Ramparts, armour and a view over the pre-Alps. Entry included.
La Maison du Gruyere: A working dairy where you watch the wheels being made through glass, with a children's audio guide narrated by a cow. Entry included.
Maison Cailler, Broc: Ten minutes further by train. The oldest chocolate brand in Switzerland, with a walk-through factory tour and an unlimited tasting room at the end. Entry included.

Morning: Einstein House on Kramgasse - the second-floor flat where he wrote the special relativity paper in 1905, kept as it was. Small, quick and genuinely memorable for older children. Entry included.
Midday: Zentrum Paul Klee, a wave-shaped Renzo Piano building on the edge of the city with a dedicated children's studio where kids make their own work rather than only look. Entry included.
Afternoon: The Gurten funicular from Wabern - ten minutes up Bern's own hill, covered by your pass. Playground, miniature railway in season, and the Bernese Alps on the horizon.
Why this day works: One indoor museum, one hands-on museum and one hilltop with space to run. That order is deliberate on the middle day of a trip.

Morning: Direct train Bern to Lucerne, about an hour. Your second and last hotel change.
Chapel Bridge: The oldest surviving wooden covered bridge in Europe, with painted panels in the roof beams and the octagonal water tower beside it. Free.
Lion Monument: A dying lion carved into a rock face ten minutes away, which Mark Twain called the saddest piece of stone in the world. Free, and children tend to remember the story.
Afternoon: A Lake Lucerne steamer from the quay outside the station, covered by your pass. An hour on the water with mountains on both sides and no ticket to buy.

Traveller Reviews
Family ke sath holiday par historical spots aur kids ke entertainment ka balance banana mushkil hota hai, par yeh package perfect nikla. National Museum Zurich mein kids ko Swiss history samajh aayi aur Lindt factory mein unlimited chocolates taste karke sab khush ho gaye. Gruyères mein live cheese making dekhna aur Broc chocolate train feel zabardast thi. Station-adjacent hotels hone se heavy bags uthane ki tension nahi rahi. Jab Bern railway station par platform change ka doubt tha, team ne 2 minute mein clear kar diya.
Trip bohot accha arrange kiya tha. Swiss Museum of Transport Lucerne mein pura din kaise nikal gaya pata hi nahi chala, Bache simulators se bahar hi nahi aa rahe the. Einstein House dekh kar bacchon ko real inspiration mili. Sirf ek star isliye kaata kyunki Gruyères village mein pure vegetarian food ke options kafi limited the (sirf plain cheese fondue aur fries mili). Baki travel pass, train connectivity aur hotels ki quality first class thi. Daily support desk ne train switches bohot aasan bana diye.
A wonderful cultural getaway from the summer heat. The balance of chocolate tastings in Kilchberg and Broc paired with the art at Zentrum Paul Klee in Bern kept both our children and elders delighted. Gruyères Castle looked straight out of a storybook. Everything was organized punctually, from verified museum entries to comfortable station transfers. Having the ground support team arrange our luggage drop assistance between Bern and Lucerne gave our family total peace of mind. Excellent and refined service.

No, it is the whole design. Most Switzerland family itineraries are a chain of summit tickets, which is the single most expensive part of any Swiss trip and, for a child under about ten, largely the same view several times over. This route spends that money on things children engage with instead - a bear park, a castle, two chocolate factories and Europe's largest transport museum. If your family specifically wants snow and cable cars, say so and we will either add a summit day from Lucerne as a supplement or quote our Family Discovery package, which is built around Jungfraujoch and Titlis.
