Taking my 72-year-old mother along with our two school-age kids to Europe felt overwhelming initially, but the pacing of this trip was spot on. The massive 9-meter chocolate fountain at Lindt Home of Chocolate in Kilchberg had the kids ecstatic, while Gruyères Castle and the Maison Cailler tasting in Broc was an absolute hit with everyone. Staying close to central stations made morning boarding effortless for mother without long walks. The team on chat even messaged us lift-accessible entry points for the Swiss Museum of Transport in Lucerne. Very thoughtful and dependable coordination.

Tour Overview
A 6-day solo Switzerland package from India - two nights in Zurich and three in Lucerne, in private single rooms at well-run hostels, with every train and excursion ticket bought before you fly. Best from May to September, when the lake steamers run their full schedule, and both summit railways are open.
Travelling alone in Switzerland usually costs more per person, not less, because a single room here runs at about 70 to 75 per cent of a double rather than half. This package works around that rather than pretending it away: hostel private rooms instead of hotel singles, point-to-point tickets instead of a rail pass, and two bases an hour apart so nothing is spent on long transfers. What that buys back is a private room every night, two proper mountain days, and evenings in places where solo travellers actually meet people.
Key features of this package
Mid-range itinerary
Explore your journey day by day, with every stay, transfer and experience clearly planned.

Arrival: The train station sits directly beneath Zurich Airport arrivals. Ten minutes to the city centre, no shuttle and nobody to find.
Check-in: Two nights in a private single room at a central Zurich hostel. Your own room, your own key, common room downstairs.
Evening: The Niederdorf lanes and the Lindenhof terrace, which gives you the whole Old Town in one view for nothing.
Solo note: Zurich is one of the easiest European cities to arrive into alone - everything is walkable, English is widely spoken, and the streets stay busy well into the evening.

Morning: Zurich to Schloss Laufen am Rheinfall, about fifty minutes. The train stops directly at the falls - there is no transfer to arrange.
Rhine Fall: Europe's largest waterfall by volume. The boat out to the middle rock, where you climb the stairs cut into it, is included.
Afternoon: Back in Zurich for the Limmat quays and the lake promenade. In summer the light holds until nearly ten.
Eating alone: Coop and Migros at the main station are open late and on Sundays, when almost nothing else in Zurich is. Useful to know on day two.

Check-in: Three nights in a private single in central Lucerne, walking distance from the station and the lake.
Evening: The Musegg Wall towers are open in season and free to climb - the best view in Lucerne without a ticket, and usually empty at dusk.
Morning:: Direct train Zurich to Lucerne, about an hour, roughly hourly. Your only hotel change of the trip.
Afternoon: The Chapel Bridge, oldest surviving wooden covered bridge in Europe, and the Lion Monument ten minutes away. Both free.

Morning: A Lake Lucerne steamer from the quay outside the station to Alpnachstad. The boat is half the pleasure of this day.
Cogwheel: The Pilatus railway climbs at gradients up to 48 per cent - the steepest cogwheel line in the world - to Pilatus Kulm at 2,132m.
At the top: Ridge walks, the Dragon Path tunnel gallery, and views across dozens of Alpine peaks on a clear day.
Down: Aerial cableway and gondola to Kriens, then a city bus back into Lucerne. A full loop - you never see the same view twice.

Morning: Lake steamer to Vitznau, about an hour on the water with the Rigi rising ahead of you.
Cog railway: Europe's oldest mountain railway, running since 1871, climbs to Rigi Kulm at 1,798m. Your day pass covers unlimited rides on the mountain.
At the top: Lakes on both sides, the Bernese Alps in the distance, and gentle ridge paths you can walk in ordinary shoes.
Budget tip: Carry lunch up. Summit restaurants in Switzerland are expensive and the picnic benches have exactly the same view.

Breakfast: At the hostel - the fifth and last one.
Rail: Direct train Lucerne to Zurich Airport, about an hour and ten minutes, arriving directly under the terminal.
Timing: Leave Lucerne at least three and a half hours before your flight. Trains are hourly and reliable, but travelling alone there is nobody to hold your place in a queue.
Departure: Atravelq trip support stays reachable on WhatsApp until you are through security.

Traveller Reviews
Family ke sath holiday par historical spots aur kids ke entertainment ka balance banana mushkil hota hai, par yeh package perfect nikla. National Museum Zurich mein kids ko Swiss history samajh aayi aur Lindt factory mein unlimited chocolates taste karke sab khush ho gaye. Gruyères mein live cheese making dekhna aur Broc chocolate train feel zabardast thi. Station-adjacent hotels hone se heavy bags uthane ki tension nahi rahi. Jab Bern railway station par platform change ka doubt tha, team ne 2 minute mein clear kar diya.
Trip bohot accha arrange kiya tha. Swiss Museum of Transport Lucerne mein pura din kaise nikal gaya pata hi nahi chala, Bache simulators se bahar hi nahi aa rahe the. Einstein House dekh kar bacchon ko real inspiration mili. Sirf ek star isliye kaata kyunki Gruyères village mein pure vegetarian food ke options kafi limited the (sirf plain cheese fondue aur fries mili). Baki travel pass, train connectivity aur hotels ki quality first class thi. Daily support desk ne train switches bohot aasan bana diye.
A wonderful cultural getaway from the summer heat. The balance of chocolate tastings in Kilchberg and Broc paired with the art at Zentrum Paul Klee in Bern kept both our children and elders delighted. Gruyères Castle looked straight out of a storybook. Everything was organized punctually, from verified museum entries to comfortable station transfers. Having the ground support team arrange our luggage drop assistance between Bern and Lucerne gave our family total peace of mind. Excellent and refined service.
Tandem paragliding over Interlaken was hands down the best part of our entire trip. Coming down onto the green park with both lakes right behind us felt insane. The high-speed Eiger Express up to Jungfraujoch saves a ton of time compared to old trains. Clear weather made all the difference. Their team rescheduled our cable car timing smoothly when mountain winds delayed our morning flight slot by two hours.

Your Own Room at Night, Company in the Evening
Every night is a private single room with your own key - no dorm, no stranger above you. Downstairs there is a common room and a kitchen, which is where solo travellers actually meet each other. And a real person on WhatsApp for the whole trip, which matters more when there is nobody else to ask.

Because a Swiss single room costs roughly 70 to 75 per cent of a double, not half. Two people sharing split that cost; alone, you pay it all. The same applies to nothing else on this trip - your train ticket and your summit ticket cost exactly what anyone else pays. To put a number on it, two people twin-sharing this identical itinerary would each pay noticeably less than this price. We would rather say that plainly than let you find out when you compare quotes.
