Taking my 72-year-old mother along with our two school-age kids to Europe felt overwhelming initially, but the pacing of this trip was spot on. The massive 9-meter chocolate fountain at Lindt Home of Chocolate in Kilchberg had the kids ecstatic, while Gruyères Castle and the Maison Cailler tasting in Broc was an absolute hit with everyone. Staying close to central stations made morning boarding effortless for mother without long walks. The team on chat even messaged us lift-accessible entry points for the Swiss Museum of Transport in Lucerne. Very thoughtful and dependable coordination.

Tour Overview
A 6-night Switzerland honeymoon package from India built around water rather than altitude - one night in Zurich on arrival, two in Lucerne and three in Interlaken, all in central 3-star hotels with a Swiss Half Fare Card. Best from mid-May to the end of October, which is the only window when both lakeside castles are open.
Four lake journeys across three lakes, and one summit that earns its place. Lake Zurich on the first evening, a sunset cruise on Lake Lucerne, then a boat across to Kehrsiten for the Hammetschwand lift - 153m of open shaft bolted to the Burgenstock cliff, the highest exterior lift in Europe and still running since 1905. On Lake Thun, Spiez Castle sits on a promontory in the water, and Oberhofen Castle has its tower standing in the lake itself, plus the St Beatus Caves cut into the shore. The mountain is Schilthorn at 2,970m, where the restaurant turns a full circle while you eat, and the Eiger, Mönch, and Jungfrau line up in the window.

Honeymoon itinerary
Explore your journey day by day, with every stay, transfer and experience clearly planned.

Arrival: The rail station is directly under Zurich Airport arrivals. Ten minutes to the main station, and the hotel is a walk from there.
Evening: A Lake Zurich cruise from Burkliplatz, straight out from the end of Bahnhofstrasse. An hour on the water with the old town behind you and the Glarus Alps ahead on a clear evening. Included.
Before the boat: The Lindenhof, a flat terrace on the hill in the middle of the old town that gives you the whole thing in one view. Free, and almost nobody goes up.
Why start on water: Most Switzerland trips spend the first evening in a hotel room recovering. This one puts you on a lake two hours after landing, which is a better first photograph than a corridor.

Evening: A sunset cruise on Lake Lucerne, with mountains on both sides and the water going from blue to copper. Some of the fleet are restored paddle steamers from the 1900s. Included.
Morning: Direct train to Lucerne, about an hour, roughly hourly through the day.
Afternoon: The Chapel Bridge, the oldest surviving wooden covered bridge in Europe, and the Lion Monument ten minutes away. Both free.
The free view: The Musegg Wall towers are open in season and cost nothing to climb - the best look over the old roofs without buying a ticket.

Morning: A boat across Lake Lucerne to Kehrsiten, about twenty-five minutes, then the funicular up the Burgenstock ridge. Both included.
The cliff path: The Felsenweg is cut into the rock face and runs level along the cliff with the lake several hundred metres straight below. Free, and the walk to the lift takes about twenty-five minutes.
The Hammetschwand lift: An open shaft bolted to the outside of the cliff, 153m straight up, the highest exterior lift in Europe. It has been running since 1905 and the ride takes under a minute. Included.
At the top: A terrace at 1,128m with Lake Lucerne spread out below and the Rigi and Pilatus massifs on either side. There is a restaurant, and almost no crowd - most day trippers from Lucerne never come here.

Evening: A three-course lakeside dinner for two back in Interlaken. This is the only dinner included in the package - every other evening is yours to choose.
Morning: The Luzern-Interlaken Express over the Brunig Pass, with Lake Lungern below it. Two hours, no reservation, no supplement.
Afternoon: Check in, then a Lake Thun boat out to Spiez. The approach is the point - the castle sits on a promontory with a vineyard behind it and a horseshoe bay in front, and it only looks like that from the water. Included.
Spiez Castle: A medieval tower with a Romanesque church beside it, a hall hung with the originals, and a park that runs down to the water. Entry included.

The climb: Interlaken Ost towards Lauterbrunnen and on to Stechelberg, then four cable car stages through Gimmelwald and Murren to the summit. About two hours each way, which makes this a full day.
At 2,970m: Piz Gloria, a restaurant that turns a full circle while you sit in it, and a terrace looking straight across at the Eiger, Monch and Jungfrau. Included.
The Thrill Walk: At the Birg middle station, a steel walkway bolted to the cliff face with glass and mesh floor sections. It is on the way up and down and costs nothing extra.
Why Schilthorn: It is the one summit in the Bernese Oberland where you look AT the three big peaks rather than standing on them - which photographs better, and comes with lunch in a room that moves.

Morning: The St Beatus Caves, cut into the Lake Thun shore a short way from Interlaken - a kilometre of lit passage past underground waterfalls, with a gorge walk outside it. Included.
Across the lake: A boat along the north shore to Oberhofen. Lake Thun is the quieter of the two Interlaken lakes and this is the prettier side of it. Included.
Oberhofen Castle: The one with the tower standing in the water - the single most photographed castle in the Bernese Oberland, with a park of specimen trees running back from the shore. Entry included.
Last afternoon: Back by boat with the Niesen pyramid ahead of you. The park at Oberhofen is free and open even when the castle rooms are not, and it is a good place to do nothing for an hour.

Why this route works
Traveller Reviews
Family ke sath holiday par historical spots aur kids ke entertainment ka balance banana mushkil hota hai, par yeh package perfect nikla. National Museum Zurich mein kids ko Swiss history samajh aayi aur Lindt factory mein unlimited chocolates taste karke sab khush ho gaye. Gruyères mein live cheese making dekhna aur Broc chocolate train feel zabardast thi. Station-adjacent hotels hone se heavy bags uthane ki tension nahi rahi. Jab Bern railway station par platform change ka doubt tha, team ne 2 minute mein clear kar diya.
Trip bohot accha arrange kiya tha. Swiss Museum of Transport Lucerne mein pura din kaise nikal gaya pata hi nahi chala, Bache simulators se bahar hi nahi aa rahe the. Einstein House dekh kar bacchon ko real inspiration mili. Sirf ek star isliye kaata kyunki Gruyères village mein pure vegetarian food ke options kafi limited the (sirf plain cheese fondue aur fries mili). Baki travel pass, train connectivity aur hotels ki quality first class thi. Daily support desk ne train switches bohot aasan bana diye.
A wonderful cultural getaway from the summer heat. The balance of chocolate tastings in Kilchberg and Broc paired with the art at Zentrum Paul Klee in Bern kept both our children and elders delighted. Gruyères Castle looked straight out of a storybook. Everything was organized punctually, from verified museum entries to comfortable station transfers. Having the ground support team arrange our luggage drop assistance between Bern and Lucerne gave our family total peace of mind. Excellent and refined service.
Tandem paragliding over Interlaken was hands down the best part of our entire trip. Coming down onto the green park with both lakes right behind us felt insane. The high-speed Eiger Express up to Jungfraujoch saves a ton of time compared to old trains. Clear weather made all the difference. Their team rescheduled our cable car timing smoothly when mountain winds delayed our morning flight slot by two hours.

Mid-May to June, or September to October
The lakes do not get better in July. What changes in high summer is the price and the number of people on the boat. Travel mid-May to late June or through September and the castles are open, the boats are on their full timetable, Schilthorn is clear, hotel rates are at their lowest and the Lake Thun sailings are half empty. Tell us your dates at enquiry and we will tell you honestly which weeks are the quiet ones.

Same three cities, same six nights and the same 3-star hotels - the difference is entirely what you do. That route climbs Mt Rigi at 1,798m and Harder Kulm at 1,322m, and its water is Lake Brienz and the Giessbach Falls. This one has one far bigger summit, Schilthorn at 2,970m with the revolving restaurant looking across at the Eiger, Monch and Jungfrau. It adds the Hammetschwand lift, four lake journeys across three lakes, two lakeside castles and the St Beatus Caves - none of which are in the budget route. The gap is about twenty-three thousand rupees and every rupee of it is extra tickets, not a better room.
