Whitewater rafting through the Rhine Gorge was unreal—the limestone cliffs looked straight out of a canyon movie, and the water was freezing but totally worth it. The 8-hour Glacier Express journey from Chur down to Zermatt didn't feel long at all because the panoramic windows made the mountain passes fly by. Walking the Five Lakes trail near Zermatt gave us that postcard reflection of the Matterhorn in Lake Stellisee. Everything was clearly detailed in our app, and the team helped quickly when we weren't sure about the bus connector in St. Moritz.

Tour Overview
Switzerland Glacier Express Adventure Tour Package — Tour Overview
A 7-day Swiss rail adventure from India, running west across the country — two nights in Chur, one in St. Moritz and three in Zermatt, with the Glacier Express doing the long middle leg. Best from June to early October, when the rafting season is open, every summit lift runs its full schedule, and the Glacier Express is on its summer timetable.
This is the scenic-train route for people who do not want to spend a week in a seat. The Glacier Express is still the centrepiece — the full eight-hour run, 291 bridges, 91 tunnels — but it sits between a raft trip through the Rhine Gorge and three nights in Zermatt with two mountain days. Three nights in one village at the end is deliberate: it is what stops a rail itinerary from becoming a series of hotel check-ins.
Key features of this package
Glacier Express Circuit Adventure itinerary
Explore your journey day by day, with every stay, transfer and experience clearly planned.

Arrival: Land at Zurich Airport. The SBB station sits directly under arrivals — no shuttle, no transfer vehicle to find.
Check-in: Two nights in Chur — settled for around 5,000 years, which makes it the oldest continuously inhabited town in Switzerland.
Evening: The old town is small, walkable and almost entirely free — a good first evening when you have just got off a long flight.
Rail: Direct train Zurich Airport → Chur, about an hour and twenty minutes along the Walensee. Ticket included at half fare.

The run: A guided raft trip down the Vorderrhein through the Ruinaulta — white limestone walls left by a prehistoric rockslide, which is why it is called the Swiss Grand Canyon.
Difficulty: Mostly grade II to III on the standard summer run — bouncy, wet, and manageable for first-timers. Wetsuit, helmet and guide are all provided.
The point: Most people see this gorge through a train window at speed. Very few see it from the water.
Season: Rafting runs roughly May to September depending on water levels. Outside that window a guided gorge hike replaces it.

The line: Chur → St. Moritz on the Albula route, a UNESCO World Heritage railway that climbs through spiral tunnels stacked inside the mountain to gain height.
Landwasser Viaduct: Six arches curving straight into a cliff face — the most photographed piece of railway in Switzerland, and you cross it rather than photograph it from below.
Check-in:: Two nights in St. Moritz, in the Engadin valley at 1,822m.
Afternoon: Rail up the Bernina line and the cable car to Diavolezza at roughly 2,980m — straight across at Piz Palü, Piz Bernina and the glaciers between them. Included.

Arrival: Zermatt for three nights. The village is car-free; your hotel's electric shuttle meets the train.
The journey: The full St. Moritz → Zermatt run in about eight hours, crossing 291 bridges and 91 tunnels and topping out at the Oberalp Pass, 2,033m.
Along the way: The Rhine Gorge again — this time from the rim, three days after you rafted the bottom of it — then the Vorderrhein valley and the descent into the Matter valley.
Your seat: The reservation is compulsory and sells out weeks ahead in summer. Yours is booked and issued with your documents.

The climb: From the village to Gornergrat at 3,089m in about thirty-three minutes — open-air and electric since 1898, with the Matterhorn in the window nearly the whole way.
Best seats: Right side going up. The Gorner Glacier opens out on the final stretch and Monte Rosa, Switzerland's highest peak, sits behind it.
Walk down a stage: The path from Gornergrat to Rotenboden is short, easy and gets you away from the platform crowds.
Timing: Go early for clear air, or late afternoon for the light. Midday is the busiest and the haziest.

Up: The Sunnegga funicular and the Blauherd cable car from the village, both included.
Five Lakes Walk: A downhill path past five mountain lakes, of which Stellisee gives the famous Matterhorn reflection on a still morning. Around two and a half hours, mostly descending.
Gorner Gorge: Wooden walkways bolted into a narrow gorge of polished serpentinite just outside the village. Short, shaded and included.
Shorter option: Ride to Blauherd, walk only to Stellisee and back to Sunnegga — about an hour, same reflection.

Traveller Reviews
Gornergrat cogwheel view of Matterhorn was breathtaking. The wooden steps along Gorner Gorge were very easy for my teenage son and me. Certified local guides handled the rafting in Rhine Gorge safely, which gave us a lot of confidence. Train tickets were all pre-validated on mobile, so zero station confusion.
Rafting the 'Swiss Grand Canyon' near Chur was a massive highlight—proper Class III rapids and epic limestone walls. The contrast between doing that and then chilling on the Glacier Express, sipping wine through the Oberalp Pass, was mint. Zermatt was incredible too; hiking around the Five Lakes was easy enough, and the Matterhorn views were unblocked the entire afternoon. The guys on chat kept it real and gave us a quick heads-up on rail changes. Worth every buck.
Zermatt aur St. Moritz dono jagah views lajawab the. Gornergrat train se Matterhorn ka view life bhar yaad rahega. Glacier Express ka panoramic coach bohot comfortable tha. 4-star isliye kyunki Diavolezza cable car ke aas-paas restaurants mein vegetarian food options na ke barabar the, toh fruit aur snacks par hi rely karna pada. Lekin team ki guidance bohot solid thi—unhone har station ke luggage lockers aur timing pehle hi chat par bhej diye the, jisse koi pareshani nahi hui.

It is a long day, and there is no point pretending otherwise. What makes it work here is what surrounds it: you have rafted, ridden the Albula line and seen a glacier panorama before you board, and three unhurried Zermatt nights waiting at the other end. The coaches have floor-to-ceiling windows and at-seat service, and the scenery genuinely changes every twenty minutes. If you would still rather split it, we can break the journey at Andermatt with an overnight — just ask.
